With any product that comes in more than one flavor, I always have my favorites. I like green and pink freeze pops. I want pink Starbursts. Give me all the vanilla Tootsie Rolls. I love the yellow Laffy Taffy. I’ll bet you have flavors that you like, as well. I’ve often wondered why the companies don’t make a package of just those flavors. It seems like most people generally favor the same flavors anyway, so why not make a big bag of pink Starbursts or yellow Laffy Taffy? When it comes to food, I am the same way. Maybe you’ve said the same type of thing I’ve said before: “I could eat pizza every single day” or “I could eat a chicken and bacon ranch sub from Subway for every meal.” As much as I like certain foods or candy, it probably wouldn’t take very long for me to get sick of those things. If I ate only pizza, I would be begging for something different after a couple weeks. If they only made pink Starbursts, I would most likely stop buying them after a while. If we ate the same thing every day, it would get very old and boring. It is the diversity that makes things enjoyable.
God designed people after the same pattern. It seems that the more that young people (or older folks, for that matter) try to prove how different they are, the more they look and act the same. God designs people to be different. After God made you, He threw the mold away. There is not one person on earth who is as unique as you are.
Popular culture promotes copying the clothing, hair styles, lifestyles, and mannerisms of the rich and famous. Apart from the obvious problems with doing that (most of those styles are not pleasing to God), it promotes the idea that in order to be “cool” or accepted, then you must look and act a certain way. Even in Christianity it seems that young men who are called into the ministry want to copy someone else. There is nothing wrong with emulating character qualities found in another individual, but don’t copy someone else. Be yourself. Most people like you for who you are, not for who you are when you are imitating someone else. God is most glorified in your life when you become exactly who He designed you to be.
