If Not You, Then Who?

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. Isaiah 61:1

If there were a serious disease spreading that was causing people to die left and right, and if you were somehow able to get your hands on some medicine that could heal them, I have no doubt that you would do whatever you could to get them that medicine. Needles hurt! A lot of people are afraid of needles, but you wouldn’t care if you knew you could save their lives. You would shout from the mountaintops that you could help them. Some may reject the medicine because needles are too uncomfortable, or because they didn’t know you and it would be too awkward. That would be their choice, but you would certainly feel obligated to do anything you could to help them.

How is our responsibility any different from a spiritual standpoint? People are dying in their sin and are on their way to hell. You have the life-giving “medicine” of the gospel that could make them whole before God. It may be uncomfortable to them when you talk about their sin, and it may be awkward if they don’t know you, but we have an obligation to share with them the only thing that can rescue them from an eternity of destruction. It really comes down to this question: if you don’t tell them about Jesus Christ, then who will? Not one time in my entire life has someone come by my house to offer me a clear presentation of the gospel. Not once! And it is that way in a lot of places. If you don’t tell your family, who will? If you don’t share the gospel with your friends and neighbors, who will? There is a good chance that the only thing between those people and an eternity in hell is you. You may very well be the only chance they have of hearing how they can have a home in Heaven.

So many Christians that would enthusiastically help distribute physical medicine say absolutely nothing about the coming judgment to the unsaved. Those who would raise their voice to proclaim their willingness to provide physical help will not so much as whisper a word in sharing the gospel. Determine that you will be one that helps get out the message of Jesus Christ to a world dying without Him. After all, if you don’t tell them, then who will?
