Get Out of the Box
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time. Ecclesiastes 3:11
I got to thinking the other day about just how many best-selling books, amazing songs, or artistic masterpieces are out there that have never been read, heard, or seen by the public because someone is too scared that the work they have produced just isn’t good enough. They are afraid either that someone will laugh at them or that their work will be a failure. Maybe they are afraid that they don’t have enough money to see their work through to completion. They keep it hidden in a box under their bed or locked in a storage cabinet away from the eyes of the populations that could enjoy their talents. They hide what God has given them in an attempt to avoid embarrassment or failure.
Many Christians do that with their lives. They have amazing talents and abilities; yet, because they are afraid of what people will think of them if they share them, they never let them be seen. There are many people who have good voices, but because they are afraid someone may laugh at them, they never join the choir or even sing out in church. Some have outstanding abilities in organization or in serving, but they don’t want the extra workload, so they keep it hidden. Some could be working in a Sunday school with the children because that is where they could best be used, but they don’t do it because they feel insecure in their own abilities. Whatever the reason, the cause of Christ is hindered because they are not doing the job that they could be doing.
Teenagers are especially well-prepared to accomplish menial jobs around the church because they have the endurance that most older folks do not; yet it seems that when the church has a work day, very few teens show up to help. Young adults are great at working with children because they can relate to them, and they have the energy to help deal with them; yet very few allow God to use their talents because they are afraid of what some will think about them. The same could be said for certain areas where older folks could be greatly used of God.
God wants to sculpt a masterpiece with your life, and He has equipped you with the talents to make it happen. Get out of “the box under the bed.” Stop being afraid of what people think of you. Most people are too wrapped up in their own insecurities to worry about making fun of you anyway. Let God use your talents to accomplish what He has placed you on this earth to do.
